Tuition and Fees

PrintEmail

Below is the approximate tuition and fees for the full 21-month program if students were attending in 2011-2012. The program is for 5 semesters, including the summer between the first & second year. If students need to take extra time to finish their independent research project, they will need to register for additional tuition and fees. Tuition rates for 2012-2013 should be available in April 2012. The cost of textbooks is not included. Tuition payments are due at the beginning of each semester.

Our best estimate of tuition for the 21 month program is in the table below, using the 2011-2012 tuition tables. There will most likely be a tuition raise in the second year that will increase the total cost:

Matriculated graduate students can apply for residency in their last 2 semesters if they have established legal ties to Utah and completed 40 credit hours in courses numbered 5000 or above. This credit hour level should be reached by the end of summer semester. All students pay resident rates in the summer. International students cannot quality for Utah residency. For rules about residency visit: http://www.sa.utah.edu/admiss/residency/index.htm.

All students are strongly advised to have health insurance coverage. Students may be enrolled in a group or individual policy, have coverage on their parents' or spouse's insurance, or have student health insurance (see http://www.studenthealth.utah.edu/services/index.htm). Students are encouraged to have health insurance coverage for their dependents also. The program does not cover the cost of health insurance.

For information about costs of campus housing, visit http://www.orl.utah.edu/. The University of Utah estimates that average living expenses are approximately $17,372 per 12 months.

In 2011-2012, there is funding for a genetic counseling fellowship for up to seven genetic counseling graduate students per year. For students entering in 2011, the fellowships will be for $3,000 for one semester (Fall 2011) and will make the recipient eligible for the tuition benefit program in that semester. Fellowship availability for 2012 is not yet known, but candidates for admission can fill out an application (click for application). The table above shows our estimates for tuition under different scenarios. For information about other financial aid, please visit http://www.sa.utah.edu/finance.
