S.A.G.E.

Society for Advancement of Genetics Exploration
SAGE, now in its 12th year has provided a forum for scientist, community leaders and guests to meet and share information about the advancement of genetic research. The April 2011 SAGE meeting celebrated the passing of the gavel as Carol Fay steps down as Chair of the SAGE organization after 11 years of service. Carol was honored at the April meeting for her vast contribution to the Department of Human Genetics and her remarkable leadership. Mark Miller, SAGE member and local businessman accepted the SAGE Chair position and pledged his support to the department and to further the departments initiatives.
The SAGE organization has accepted a greater role within the Department of Human Genetics. In addition to their role as ambassadors in science the membership has agreed to assist in raising funds for department’s projects and initiatives.
The society meets twice a year, spring and fall. The evening format of reception and lecture followed by a dinner is a wonderful opportunity to visit with others interested in the amazing research projects that are rapidly changing the face of medicine.
Past programs have included presentations from internationally recognized scientists such as Mario R. Capecchi Ph.D., Novel Laureate, who has shared his research on gene targeting and mouse models of human disease, to most recently Charles Murtaugh Ph.D. who spoke about his current work using genetically-engineered mice to gain insights into human birth defects and cancer.
